About
I am a software engineer and engineering leader with over 25 years of experience designing and shipping applications — from standalone tools to web-scale platforms. I specialize in building backend systems that run efficiently with minimal resources while handling substantial traffic.
My core craft is the JVM: I architect and evolve distributed backend services in modern Java and Spring Boot, with a particular focus on systems that stay fast, observable and inexpensive to run as they scale. But I am most at home working across an entire product platform — native Android and iOS apps, desktop and web clients, and the AWS cloud infrastructure underneath, managed end-to-end as code with Terraform.
Just as important to me is how software ships: over the years I have built the containerized deployment pipelines, automated end-to-end test suites and CI/CD workflows that let a small team operate a large fleet of services with confidence. Most recently I have been applying that same engineering discipline to AI- and LLM-powered product features and agentic developer workflows.
Today I serve as Director of Engineering at Dobility, Inc., the company behind SurveyCTO. Beyond writing code, I am passionate about mentoring engineers and growing small, high-trust teams through coaching and clear leadership.
My PhD work, completed in 2007 at the University of Patras, focused on synchronous peer-to-peer collaboration — including a proprietary Java-sockets protocol that powers the Synergo platform.
